Why the New Mammography Coverage is Important
With breast cancer being the second leading cause of death in women it is important for there to be proper coverage when it comes to prevention. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, roughly 10,000 women in Illinois are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
Recently Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a new law, Senate Bill 162, which extends coverage to Mammographs, ultrasounds and MRIs when medically necessary and recommended by a medical professional. This will be the most beneficial when a woman needs further testing to detect a possible cancer diagnosis.
“I am delighted that the new legislation on increased coverage for mammograms will be effective soon. Greater access to screening and diagnosis will lead to higher cure rates and improved lives”!
