7 Tips for a Healthier 2021

The new year is here, and we are so happy to wish 2020 GOODBYE! We can leave behind the craziness of the pandemic, the worry, the stress and let things settle into the “new normal.” In 2021 we are hoping to build back up our health both mentally and physically.

Making these simple changes in 2021 can give you a healthier and happier new year.

Physical Activity

Being physically every day for at least 30 minutes can help boost your mental and physical health. Start with something small like a daily walk, get up and stretch for a “work break” or even pick back up your favorite sport. By doing this you will feel more energized throughout your day.

If you’re having a hard time staying active during your cancer treatment, check out these tips.

Better Sleep Routines

A good night’s rest does wonders for our bodies. It’s a time for our body to relax and repair itself after a long day. It will boost our immune system, lower stress and build our energy levels. Creating a sleep schedule, reduce screen time and reading a book before bed are all ways for your mind to unwind and prepare itself for bedtime.

Improve Your Nutrition

Now’s the time! Give up pop, sugar, alcohol and sweets. Your body is only as strong as what you put in it and you need all the fuel you can get this year. Whether you started exercising, trying to improve your overall health or just trying something new, proper nutrition is extremely important. Drink More Water

Staying hydrated can be hard, but this year we are all going to get better with our water habits. By keeping a water bottle on you at all times, you will find yourself drinking more, but if you’re still having trouble you can always buy a bottle that glows when you aren’t drinking enough or has a drinking timeline written on it. Quit Smoking – For Good

Let 2021 be the year you finally throw your cigarettes out – for good! Start at day one with help from the American Cancer Society – The Great American Smokeout.

If you think this doesn’t include a vaping pen, better understand the risks here.

Meditate

Start taking time for yourself to reflect and relax each day. A quick 15-minute meditation or participating in yoga will help you calm your mind. Also, ask your doctor about the possibility of integrative health treatments for cancer or another illness.

Practice Gratitude

Each morning write down what you’re grateful for that day and a few goals. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health and focusing on your goals and what you’re grateful for can help immensely.

Each night think about journaling what happened throughout your day. This can help you calm down for the night and by focusing on what you’re grateful for, your goals and the positive aspects of your day you can boost your mood!

Let’s make 2021 the best year we can!
